Résumé

Hi! I'm a software engineer with strong backend & infra/DevOps experience and decent frontend & product development skills. I have 9 YOE with a mix of enterprise, startup, and freelance; 3+ YOE working remotely in a globally distributed team.

Pragmatic, autonomous, and generalist. I typically work on business problems end-to-end, from researching and specification, architecting designs & making trade-offs, to deployment. I've built and maintained time-sensitive, high-throughput systems processing millions of ops daily.

From 2022 until mid 2025, I worked remotely as a software engineer at Automattic (US) - the company behind WordPress, mostly on the backend and infra side of MailPoet with some frontend work as well. Among the many things that I've achieved there, I independently architected and built a time-sensitive email list evaluation service that now protects over 50+ million emails monthly, and built an AI-based signup vetting that reduced manual review workload by more than 75%. The core stack was TS/Node, Ruby/Rails, React, and microservices/K8s.

My role extended beyond application code; I worked directly with deployment automation and infra - Kubernetes and Ansible, and helped make releases safer and more repeatable. I'm very comfortable operating across the boundary between software and infra.

Earlier in my career, from 2017 until 2019, I worked as a software engineer at Earthlink, one of the largest tech companies in Iraq and the country's biggest ISP. I joined for a fresh project to build internal web apps for company-wide business workflow automation. Most of the work involved translating fragmented, manual business processes into working full-stack systems, modeling business ops using BPMN, and integrating with dozen internal systems (ERP, CRM, Billing, etc.). The core stack was Java/Spring, Python, Vanilla JS, and Workflow Engine.

From 2019 until 2022, I continued at Earthlink as a senior software engineer, where my role shifted toward technical ownership and leadership. I led the engineering side of the workflow automation project, making key architectural and technical decisions, and setting the implementation direction for the team. I mentored junior engineers, reviewed designs, and ensured the systems were maintainable over time.

The workflow automation project outcome was quite positive: significantly fewer process errors, faster end-to-end execution, and improved SLA compliance across multiple business units.

I'm based in Baghdad, Iraq (UTC+3)
